OverviewDeputy Director- National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health at UNSW. This is a research-focused leadership position with an applied and translational emphasis. The Deputy Director provides strategic and academic leadership across the Centre’s national programs and initiatives, delivering the Centre’s strategic objectives. The Deputy Director works closely with the Centre Director, Chief Operating Officer (COO), and Consortium leadership, and may act as the delegate for the Centre Director when required.ResponsibilitiesLead key research and translation initiatives and manage a team of 3–5 direct reports.Contribute to the Centre’s strategic planning, partnerships, and external engagement.Provide strategic and academic leadership across the Centre’s national programs and initiatives to reflect the Centre’s values of inclusion, evidence, and lived experience.Oversee the integration of research, capability building and operational functions; lead major collaborations and funding initiatives.Contribute to UNSW’s academic mission through impactful research, HDR supervision and sector-focused scholarship.Represent the Centre nationally and internationally and may act as delegate for the Centre Director when required.QualificationsA PhD or equivalent distinguished experience in public health, disability, health services, social sciences, or fields important to the Centre.Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing teams and driving outcomes in complex stakeholder environments, or successful track record of liaising between industry or government and the higher education sector.Significant track record in research leadership with outcomes of high quality and international impact; evidence of continual research excellence and leadership.Academic excellence and outstanding contribution to research and scholarship.Leadership in building engagement and partnerships with the profession and industry.Experience in recruiting and supervising high-calibre students.Strong understanding of equity, inclusion and co-production principles, particularly with people with disability, First Nations people, or marginalised communities.High-level communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.Ability to work strategically and pragmatically in a fast-paced Centre environment.Ability to contribute to the Centre’s strategic vision and manage change to achieve it.Demonstrated proactive and energetic leadership with the ability to motivate diverse teams.Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including encouraging staff and handling difficult conversations when necessary.Commitment to equity, fairness and ethics to ensure a safe, diverse, and respectful working environment.Understanding of UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, with knowledge of relevant policies and guidelines.Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to training.Pre-employment ChecksNSW Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain oneCriminal Records CheckQualifications checkBenefits and Culture17% Superannuation and leave loadingAdditional 3 days of leave over the Christmas periodAccess to lifelong learning and career developmentProgressive HR practicesHow to ApplyPlease click Apply now to submit your application online.
