The National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health is a national initiative dedicated to improving the health of people with intellectual disability. Why This Role Matters The Deputy Director plays a critical leadership role within the National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health, working with the Centre Director, COO, and Consortium leadership to deliver strategic objectives. This is a research-focused leadership position with an applied and translational emphasis, suited to someone who has worked across academic, policy, and service delivery settings and who can engage directly with the sector. The Deputy Director provides strategic and academic leadership across the Centre’s national programs and initiatives, ensuring alignment with the Centre’s values of inclusion, evidence, and lived experience. Responsibilities include leading key research and translation initiatives, managing a team of 3–5 direct reports, contributing to strategic planning, partnerships, and external engagement, and representing the Centre nationally and internationally. The role may act as delegate for the Centre Director when required. Responsibilities

Provide strategic and academic leadership across national programs and initiatives. Represent the Centre nationally and internationally; may act as delegate for the Centre Director. Contribute to HDR supervision and sector-focused scholarship; engage with policy and service delivery settings.
Qualifications
A PhD or equivalent distinguished experience in public health, disability, health services, social sciences, or related fields relevant to the Centre. Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing teams and working with complex stakeholder environments, or experience liaising between industry/government and higher education. Significant track record in research leadership with high-quality outputs and international impact. Strong academic excellence and contribution to research and scholarship. Experience building engagement and partnerships with the profession and industry. Experience recruiting and supervising high-calibre students. Understanding of equity, inclusion, and co-production, particularly with people with disability and marginalised communities. High-level communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work strategically in a fast-paced, evolving Centre environment. Ability to contribute to the Centre’s strategic vision and manage change. Demonstrated proactive leadership and ability to motivate diverse teams. Commitment to UNSW aims, objectives, and values, with knowledge of related policies and guidelines. Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and willingness to undertake relevant training.
