Location: Across New City College campuses (East London & South-West Essex)

Pay Range: circa 68k to 76k

Hours and weeks: Full-time, full-year

Contract Type: Permanent


Join us as Deputy Group Director of Estates and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our college’s built environment. This is a strategic, cross-college position responsible for leading high-performing estates teams, overseeing facilities management, and delivering capital and maintenance programmes that support teaching, learning, and student experience. Based across multiple campuses, this in-person role requires regular travel across the College Group to ensure consistent service delivery, compliance, and operational excellence.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead the strategic development and continuous improvement of the College’s Estates service across all campuses.
  • Manage hard and soft facilities services, including cleaning contracts and internal service operations.
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory regulations including health & safety, fire safety, asbestos, legionella, and building services legislation.
  • Oversee capital works, refurbishment programmes, and planned/reactive maintenance projects.
  • Direct procurement activities, contractor performance, and budget control for estates-related services.
  • Support the development and delivery of the College’s Property and Accommodation Strategy.
  • Lead and develop cross-campus Estates teams, ensuring consistent service standards and professional development.
  • Maintain and optimise the College’s Computer-Aided Facilities Management system for accurate reporting and compliance tracking.


Who You Are:

  • Degree-qualified (or equivalent) and working towards professional membership (e.g., BIFM, CIBSE).
  • Proven experience in building and building services management, including compliance and capital programme delivery.
  • Strong project management skills, ideally within a public sector or educational environment.
  • Skilled in facilities contract procurement, budget management, and performance monitoring.
  • Effective communicator with excellent leadership, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experienced in managing and developing cross-functional teams to deliver consistent service.
  • Strategic thinker with a commitment to equality, diversity, safeguarding, and health & safety.
