Job Description

I’m currently retained to recruit a Finance Director for a long established, family-owned business operating in the wholesale sector, supplying high-quality products to leading retailers across the UK. With a proud heritage, the business imports from the Far East, distributes into the retail market, and has a proud commitment to integrity and service excellence.

This is a newly created Finance Director role, which will play a key part in steering the business through its next phase of growth.

\n\n

 

\n\n

The Role:-

\n\n

 

\n\n

Reporting directly to the owners and working closely with the Board, you will have overall responsibility for the company’s financial strategy, governance, and performance. This is a hands-on role where you will lead the finance function while contributing to wider business decisions and long-term planning.

\n\n

 

\n\n

Your responsibilities will include:

\n\n

  • Overseeing all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and reporting.
  • \n\t
  • Providing strategic insight and financial guidance to support growth and profitability. Managing the Foreign exchange strategy for the business. Potentially looking at future acquisitions, and subsequent integration. Managing relationships with banks, auditors, and other external partners. Implementing robust financial controls, risk management frameworks, and compliance processes. Leading and developing the small finance team, ensuring high standards of accuracy and efficiency. Partnering with commercial teams to analyse margins, pricing strategies, and market trends.

The candidate:-

\n\n

You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with a proven track record in a senior finance leadership role, ideally within an SME / Family ran organisation within the wholesale, import/export, or FMCG sectors. You’ll combine technical expertise with commercial acumen and have the confidence to challenge and influence at board level.

  • Strong understanding of supply chain, import processes, and currency considerations.
  • \n\t
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a collaborative approach. Proven ability to drive efficiency, improve processes, and support business growth. A hands-on, pragmatic style suited to a family-run environment.
